Building Comfort and Trust Through Observation

Objective: Learn how to use body language cues to create comfort and trust in your interactions.

How to Read and Respond to Non-Verbal Cues:

  1. Assess Comfort Level:
    1. Leaning In: If your date leans in while you’re talking, they are likely engaged and interested in what you’re saying.
    1. Facing Towards You: When someone angles their body towards you, it indicates interest and attentiveness.
  2. Building Rapport with Mirroring:
    1. Subtly mirroring the other person’s body language can help establish a bond and increase trust. This includes matching their posture, tone, and even their gestures.
    1. Be mindful not to overdo it. Subtlety is key in making mirroring feel natural.
  3. Responding to Discomfort:
    1. If you notice closed-off body language (crossed arms, leaning away, looking around the room), it could be a sign that your date is uncomfortable. In this case, it’s best to give them space, change the topic to something more neutral, or offer reassurance.
  4. Using Your Own Body Language to Build Trust:
    1. Maintain an open posture: Relaxed shoulders, uncrossed arms, and facing the other person.
    1. Use your facial expressions to reflect warmth and approachability—smiling naturally and maintaining light eye contact.

Be mindful of the tone and pace of your voice, which can also impact how comfortable someone feels with you.
